I am very interested in how discoveries in neuroscience can affect changes in our educational system to make it more responsive to the needs of our kids and how they actually learn.
I was watching PBS one night and I saw this animation from Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned education and creativity expert and recipient of the RSA’s Benjamin Franklin award. He talks about how our education system today is not designed to properly engage and serve students of the 21st Century.
At the 3:40 second mark he addresses the issue of ADD. In his opinion it is NOT an epidemic and that we are inappropriately and dangerously drugging our children, penalizing them for being distracted in the face of overwhelming amounts of information. He reviews the rates of ADD medications across the nation and asks the question, are there really more kids with ADD in Pennsylvania than in Colorado?
I completely agree with his arguments, especially about ADD. It’s an enlightening video, enjoy!
